A compilation of the history and noteworthy wares of Libbey Glass, this book records the heritage of a factory whose prestigious accomplishments often escape the recognition it deserves from curators, dealers and collectors of antique and historic American glass. It is the only updated monolithic book about the business founded in 1818 as the New England Glass Company, moving to a new factory built in Toledo in 1888 after which the name was changed to Libbey Glass Company. Today, as part of Owens-Illinois, Inc., it continues to operate as America's Oldest Glassmaker. Pictorial History pages highlight the people, places and events over Libbey's more than a century and a half history. Milestones are reviewed in brief text, with over 200 illustrations, most of which never before have been published. The history section provides the background for the appreciation this famous factory's products merit.
