Chosen Country is a novel about two people who were meant for each other. Such a marriage is more rare than the screen Writers would have us think: and perhaps more common than we might infer from a reading of Louella Parsons. That kind of happy meeting is not made in a single lifetime. To understand it we must turn back the generations and see the making of family tradition and family character. We need to watch personality flower from this main stem in more than one era and thus learn the ancestral sources of courage and integrity, of humor, constancy, and love, and finally we must understand good coincidence that allows two paths that wander in the maze of humanity to meet.
