Written for children ages 6-8. When Ben's father gave him an Indian pony, a little appaloosa, for his birthday, Ben's fondest dream was realized. He loved horses and was thrilled to have one of his own that he could train and ride. It wasn't long before the boy and the pony were galloping happily across the range, riding back and forth to school and participating in the cattle round-ups. Their many adventures included helping to save the life of the chief of a nearby Indian tribe. The story reaches an exciting end when Ben and his pony break all records in a calf-roping contest and carry off the honors at the Fourth-of July rodeo. An offer by a wealthy ranch owner for the "little appaloosa" is turned down by Ben when he remembers all the good times he and Pal have had together.
