Beautiful wildlife illustrations done in reddish brown, blue-gray and black and white. John Schoenherr won a 1988 Caldecott medal for Owl Moon by Jane Yolen. He illustrated Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George, Rascal by Sterling North, Incident at Hawk's Hill by Alan Eckert, and many science fiction publications. He also won the Hugo Award in 1965 for Best Professional Artist. He is probably best known for his dust jacket art for Frank Herbert's Dune.
